Abstract
The film documents the motions of workers at the Ball Brothers Company , showing how worker efficiency was increased through elimination of wasted motion . Employees are shown assembling parts , stamping lids , inspecting glass jars , labeling and packing bottles , and packing jars . Jar lids and rings are assembled by workers from a conveyer belt . Specific workers whose name are known include Verl Mellott , "Tiny " Vanderburg , Bessie Allen , Marie King , Edgar Jones , "Mac " McCreery , Marcella Lykins , Mary Jones , and Wanda Hill . Employees appear to have worked at the Ball Brothers Company Plant Number 2 in Muncie , Indiana .
Description
Frank and Lillian Gilbreth were pioneers in the field of industrial management . Filmed time-motion studies were one method they used to attempt to find the "one best way " to do a myriad of tasks in industrial , office and domestic settings . Frank Gilbreth took over 250,000 feet of 35 mm . film and was able to increase the efficiency of repetitive tasks in these settings .
