Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service Lafayette, Indiana Mimeo 4-H 295 1966 INDIANA 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT --DIVISION V Black and White Photos (Advanced techniques) by Howard Knaus, visual aids specialist and Evelyn Quesenberry, 4-H Club staff 1. Eligibility Division V Photography must be preceded by Divisions I, II and preferably III and/ or IV. 2. Objectivies The objectives of this project, in addi- tion to the ones listed in Divisions I, II, III, and IV, are to introduce: a. Other techniques of lighting b. Cropping c. Multiple lighting techniques d. Use and effect of filters e. Time exposure photography 3. Prints may be enlarged and/or cropped for uniform exhibit. 4. Requirements Take at least 50 black and white pic- tures--some with natural lighting and some with artificial lighting. The pic- tures should include a variety of sub- jects, such as: pets, animals or birds, landscapes or scenery, people (individ- uals or groups), portraits, still life, close-ups, others of your own choosing. Exhibit should include one (1) each of the following: a. Back lighted scenery b. Back lighted person with fill light c. Flowers -- back lighted d. Silhouette (person, building, or ob- ject) e. Sunset or sunrise f. Pattern picture g. Scene with yellow filter h. Same picture as (g) with red filter i. Time exposure in existing light (example; night street scene) j. Other of your own choosing. 5. Exhibit a. The exhibit must have ten (10) black and white prints, one each as listed under requirements . Place a title under each picture, and indicate (a, b, c, d, etc.) corresponding to categories. (see number 4 page 1). b. Entitle exhibit "Photography V." Display the prints on horizontal mounting board 22" by 28". Use cement or dry mounting tissue de- signed especially for photos. c. Attach label in lower right corner of display board. Include the fol- lowing information on the label: Name________________________________ Age_______Township__________________ Club________________________________ County______________________________ Years in 4-H Photography____________ d. On the back of the display board, fasten the attached "Photo Exhibit Record." List each picture by title and category - a, b, c, d, e, etc. (see number 4). If possible, include kind of film and exposure informa- tion (shutter speed and lens open- ing)
