Circular 315 January, 1946 The Indiana Feeding Stuffs Law and how to comply with it F. W. QUACKENBUSH, State Chemist'' - -‘i't P. B. CURTIS, Associate Chemist. The Indiana feeding stuffs law is primarily a labelu^'Sf&W. j^T^quires that all commercial feeding stuffs be accurately labeled with Stdte Ob^nist labels. The law is designed to protect purchasers of feeding stuffs by giving them detailed information regarding feeding stuffs and also to protect the honest and reliable feed dealers and manufacturers against the practices of dishonest, careless and irresponsible ones. This circular contains a copy of the law and the rules which have been promulgated under the law. If additional information is desired it may be obtained by writing to the State Chemist, Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station, Lafayette, Indiana. HOW TO COMPLY WITH THE LAW 1. Registration. Before any commercial feeding stuff is offered for sale in Indiana the feed manufacturer or feed registrant must file with the State Chemist a properly notarized certificate giving the name of the person or firm registering the feeding stuff, the location of the principal office, the brand name of the feed, the ingredients from which it is compounded and minimum percentage guarantees of crude protein and crude fat and a maximum percentage guarantee of crude fiber. Blank certificates may be obtained from the State Chemist. Information concerning the registration requirements of vitamin D supplements for poultry and mineral feeds may be found in rules numbered 15 and 19 respectively. Registrations are permanent and need not be made annually unless changes are made in the chemical guarantee or list of ingredients. 2. How to Order Labels and Cost of Labels. Each certificate of registration must be accompanied by a minimum order for !>tate Chemist labels of $5.00 or some multiple thereof before the feed will be registered. Two kinds of State Chemist labels can be furnished, one a manila shipping t»g and the other a gummed label. Both types bear the facsimile signature of the State Chemist and carry the registrant’s guarantee as set forth in the registration. Each order should specify whether tags or gummed labels are desired. These tags and gummed labels are issued to cover 100, 50, and 25 pounds at proportionate rates, 80 cents per hundred for 100-pound, 40 cents per hundred for ®-pound and 20 cents per hundred for 25-pound labels. The order for any feed may ta divided into these three weight denominations to meet the needs, provided that not more than three such divisions are requested for any one feed. State Chemist tags and gummed labels are good until used, provided that they describe the feed
