He said that in the reorganization of the faculty and the establishing of the Senate, the faculty and the students expect great things to come from this body and this was a challenge. He called on President Hovde to make a few remarks on the reorganization. President Hovde reaffirmed the challenge to this body, pointing out the purpose of this reorganization is to organize ourselves as a faculty to conduct faculty business in a more efficient way and in the interest of developing the university at a critical time. He said that in the history of the State Universities, never had they faced so many new challenges; the problems of management, organization, curriculum, training people for effective, happy living in the new urban society. Changes are coming faster now and we should be organized to react more quickly than faculties are usually disposed to react. He welcomed the existence of this body of eighty-seven members with the eight appointments given to him which would provide the liaison and the communication between the leadership of the faculty and the administrative staff of the University who are definitely obligated to carry out and administer the policies and the procedures that are adopted and set down by the Senate.
