President Emeritus. Well we've had a lot of
topics this morning let's start out with the
topic of faculty relations while you were
president.
The main purpose of the university being
teaching and research and public service that
is related to education and scholarly work
and research. It follows that people that do
the work the most important people that do the
work are the faculty. The faculty 0f ~ourse,
consists of those who have teaching assignments
in the schools of the university and those who
have research assignments and those who do both.
The faculty is an organized group of people
who's given certain powers with respect to
university management. These powers are
prescribed by the trustees and are reserved to
the organized faculty .or faculty government
which is the organizational structure composed
of faculty members organized to discharge their
responsibilities under the code of the university .
mistorically, the president of the university
is not only ~t's chief adminstrative officer
but is also named as the head of the faculty
organization, whatever form that may take.
