KERKER October 29, 1986 This is an interview with Dean Emeritus Jack Jenks Stockton, School of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University, held on Wednesday, October 29, 1986, in the Trustees' Room, Stewart Center, Purdue University. The interviewer is Ann E. Kerker, Professor and Veterinary Medical Librarian Emeritus. Dr. Stockton, from reading your biography, I know that you were born in Ohio and spent your early years there through the time you earned your D.V.M. degree from Ohio State University in 1943. What factors influenced your decision to choose veterinary medicine as a career? STOCKTON: Ann, I confess to always having been an animal lover. I know that's a cliche, and I know the purists would say there is no such thing as love for animals, but I would contest that a bit, and I have in fact always been fond of animals. When I was a young boy growing up in Central-Western Ohio, and would be gone from home, a small town in Central-Western Ohio, my mother was almost fearful - 1 -
