Tape 3 July 18, 1969 Eckles: Yesterday, sir, we were talking about your role in the development of the Purdue Research Foundation, and we were also talking about trustees. You had finished, I believe, with David Ross. Do you want to add anything to what you said yesterday about Mr. Ross? Potter: L_Nothin.s.7' except that he is without question the greatest benefactor Purdue has ever had. There were other trustees about the same time who were unusual. There was Faye F. Chandler who was for many years in top management in the Chandler and Taylor Company in Indianapolis, manufacturers of reciprocating steam engines. Later on he came to Lafayette and became a vice-president in charge of sales of the Ross Gear. Chandler had a very fine appreciation of people's reactions, a good understanding of the needs of industry, and a great love for his alma mater, Purdue University. He graduated from Purdue a few years after Dave Ross did. Another trustee that I respected very highly was Simpson of Vincennes, a horticulturist, an exceedingly fine family man, and a devoted citizen. He was the type of person who sort of sets the tone
