Krannert alumni are frequent contributors to management classes, making lessons come alive for students. Below, we feature just a few of the alumni who visited Krannert during the spring semester Janice Fenn, MSM '86, corporate director of human resource development at Sara Lee, spoke to students in an OBHR course this spring. Fenn presented some of the challenges of managing succession planning with Sara Lee. "She also shared many personal experiences that helped the students understand her work, her profes¬ sional challenges, and how these experiences shaped her leadership style. Janice was a dynamic, energetic speaker," Professor Stephen Green, director of professional master's programs, says. KSAA Director Tamara Morse, MSM '78, a partner with Financial Resources Group, discussed the pros and cons of different investment alternatives with more than 50 students and Dean Dennis Weidenaar in a personal finance seminar hosted by the Finance Club. Krannert School Alumni Association (KSAA) board members participated in several classes before their spring meeting. Returning alumni included Steve Hussey, MSM '82, information technology manager, test measurement organization, Hewlett-Packard Company; Steven Johnson, MSIA '72, worldwide partner - retail and electronic commerce, Andersen Consulting; Gary Naab, BSIM '67, senior project manager, capital cost improvements, General Mills, Inc.; and Valerie Wohlleber, MSM 82. Po-Young Chu, PhD '87, is the dean of the Department of Manage¬ ment at National Chiao-Tling University, Taiwan. He visited Herbert Moskowitz, Lewis B. Cullman Distinguished Professor of Manufac¬ turing Management and Director of the Center for the Management of Manufacturing Enterprises (CMME). Chu was a CMME Scholar at Krannert. Dean's Advisory Council (DAC) member Thomas Page, MSL\ '6.^ and HDR '94, chairman of the board, Enova Corporation, participated in one of Professor Catherine Daily's strategic management courses while visiting campus for the spring DAC meeting. Page is pictured with fellowship recipient Scott Butler, MSM. Michael Behnke, MSM '83 Michael Behnke, MSM '83, director of planning. Roadway Global Logistics Systems, retumed to campus in February to participate in Catherine Daily's strategic management class. Also in February, Kathleen Stiles Smith, BSM '83, a senior auditor with Ernst & Young, spoke about career management to one of Professor Jack Hatcher's auditing classes. A#eveloping leadership is our business. Krannert's programs emphasize leadership In the classroom, through faculty research, and in the information technolo^ we provide students and the innovath/e ways they use it. Leaders set a course for those who work with them. They exemplify commitment and courage. They take risks, encourage creativity, celebrate achievement, and bring energy to their projects. We are proud to witness these qualities in our alumni, faculty, and students. I am pleased to share this issue of Krannert Update with you. Your career and community activities, like those of the individuals featured in this publication, reflect the commitment, dedication, and professionalism that are the hallmarks of the Krannert School. Thomas and Evelyn Page Leadership Fellowship recipient Scott Butler (left) and Thomas Page, MSIA '63 and HDR '94 In April, Judson Strader, MSL\ '67, chief executive officer. National Buyers Network, made presentations to two of Professor Arnold Cooper's entrepreneurial classes. He spoke about his sources of financing for entrepreneurial ventures and the activities of his venture capital firm. Eric "Rick" Childs, BSM 84 and MSM '86, made a skillhil presentation to the Krannert Accounting Club on February 15, according to Professor Charles Tritschler. "Rick's subject was mergers and acquisitions. Rick is a consultant on corporate finance with Crowe Chizek and has contributed to Purdue becoming their leading source of recruits," Tritschler says. Scott Sandefur, BSM '84 and MSIR '86, superintendent - labor relations and hourly employees, Packard Electric Division of General Motors, spoke in May about the labor relations situation and negotiations between the United Auto Workers and the Big Three auto makers in Associate Dean James Dworkin's master's class on negotiations. Thank you to these alumni, and the many others, who enrich our programs. •
