The National Poland China Swine Breeders' Association held its annual meeting at th* Sherman House, heard papers on breeding and diseases at,d elected their new officers: President W. TT. MoClung, Waterloo, Iowa; Vice-President,. J. A, Countryman, I/ndenwood, IU; Treasurer and Seoretary, Carl Frelgene. This resolution was adopted: "To secure sufficient room and an abundance of water withont intense summer heat for an adequate Uve stcck show for the great Columbian fair ot 1892, the location should be in Chicago as the only city with these advantages." Hampshiredown sheep breeders formed a Hampshiredown Breeders' National Association at the Palmer House, for registering of stook and the discussion of matters of interest. The officers elected are: President, James Wood, Mount Klsoo, N, Y; vice-Presidents, E. F. Brodetoh, Framingham, Mass., J. W. Gaines, LoweU, Wis; Secretary, and Treasurer, J. S. Gordon, Pa. NATIONAL. SWINE BBEEDEBS. The association held its annual meeting at the Sherman Hocss, with Mr. D, L. Thomas in the chair. A paper on "The present phases of the Government investigation of the swine plague" was read by Dr. D. E. Salmon, chief of the bureau of animal industry, Department of Agriculture. According to Dr. Salmon's idea, there are two different germs whioh cause the flagrant diseases among swine. Dr. Frank S. Billings, late professor in the University of Nebraska, foUowed with a review of the swine plague, in which he claimed that there was but one germ causing the disease. The contradictory points In two papers brought forth an animated discussion. The officers elected for the ensuing year are: President, B. R. Vale, Bonaparte, Iowa; vloe president, N. H. The annual meeting was held at the Leland House, with President George Geary, of Brookfield, Mo., in the chair. The report of the executive committee showed that 1,396 entries had been made on the books during the past year, which makes a total of 11,260 animals now registered by the association.
