Wo congratulate our Indiana Farmers and Mechanics J —yes, and every body ebe—upon tho fact, now no longer doubtful, that we are to havo a grand industrial display of( agricultural and mechanical products of our own State, in \ the Fall of 1852. The recent session of the State Board of Agriculture was a most gratifying and spirited one, and the feeling there displayed gives the most satisfactory proof that, although we have got a- late start,, yet there is a 'good time coming' for thd-working-men of Indiana. The great length of the proceedings, leave us but little room for comment at this time. Let all our friends read the proceedings. ; Our List. : The past few weeks have brought us large and gratify- ■ ing additions to our subscription list. We are under great obligations to the kindness of our friends ofthe State Board for their prompt action in behalf of the " Farmer," and | hope our patrons will push on the column until we are enabled to make a journal which shall be a fit organ for the ! agricultural interests of this great State. PROCEEDINGS OP THE STATE BOARD OP i AGRICULTURE, At their Second Annual Session, held at. Indian^pclis, January the 8th and 9th. REPORTED FORTHE JOITRJf AL 3Y L. BOLLMAS, ESQ. Indianapolis, January 8th, 1852. The Board was called to order by the President, Gov. Wright, and the following members of the State Board appeared. Messrs. Wright, Harris, Brown, Orr, Holloway, Stevenson, McBride, RatcljfF, and Swe- ney, Mr. Steele and Mr. Dunn, subsequently elected, were also in attendance. The following persons appeared as Representatives from County. Societies. From the County of Allen, Mr. Nelson, " Elkhart, " Murray, " Fayette, " Stone, " Hendricks, " Singer, " Henry, " Grubbs, Knox, " Williams, " Laporte, " Allen, Monroe, " Bollman, " Marion, " Fletcher, Martin, " Niblack, Ohio and? „ „ „ " Switzerland,^ nan> " Parke, " Donaldson, " Rush, " Morgan, Shelby, " Whitcomb, Steuben, " McConnell " Tippecanoe. " Levering, Vigo, " Durham, " Wayne, " Dennis, " Gibson, << Cochrum. Mr. Orr, offered the following resolution, which was adopted. Resolved, That tho members of tho Senate and House of Representatives be requested to attend tho meetings of the State Board, when convenient, and particularly at our night sessions, and participate in the deliberations and discussions of the Board, and that the Secretary furnish a copy of this resolution to both Houses. Reports from County Societies were called for and presented from the Counties of Elkhart, Fayette, Henry, Laporte, Monroe, Marion, Morgan, Martin, Ohio and Switzerland, Parke, Putnam, Porter, Rush, St. Joseph, Tippecanoe, Hendricks, Vigo, and Wayne. Two communications from Gen. Joseph Orr, of Laporte county, and one from M. R. Hull, of Fayette county, were laid before the Board hy the President. On motion of Mr. Brown, the President appointed a committee to report, as soon as practicable, rules for tho government of the State Board. Messrs. Brown, Nelson, Allen, Steele, and Dennis were appointed. The President laid before the Board various Reports, documents, &c, relating to Agriculture, from" tho States of New York and Ohio. On motion by Mr. Le\'ering, a committee of three were appointed to find out what amendments the present law for the encouragement of Agriculture requires, and to report such amendments to this Board. Messrs. Levering, Holloway, and Nelson were appointed said committee. On motion of Mr. Dennis, Resolved, That the Legislature be requested to amend the Act for the encouragement of Agriculture, so that all regularly organized Horticultural Societies within the State, be placed on the same footing as tho County Societies. On motion of Mr. Holloway, Resolved, That an Executive committee of three shall be appointed, of which tho President shall be chairman, to determine the time and place of holding the Slate Fair, with full powers to offer and award premiums under the law of 1851, for the promotion of Agriculture. On motion by Mr. Steele, Resolved, That tho Committee on thc Agricultural law inquire into tho expediency of so amending that law, that tho Assessors shall, in their assessments, take down the number of stock ; of acres of oats, wheat, corn, rye, barley, flax, hemp, potatoes, broom-corn, and vino-yards, and of bushels per acre. Gov. Wright offered thc following resolution: Resolved, That the State Board, in their report to tho Legislature, be requested to ask an appropriation of two thousand dollars to the State Board of Agriculture during this year.
