Fine Sheep.—Hugh Maxwell, of Centre Township, in this county, has just returned from Ohio with a thorough bred Spanish Merino Buck, purchased from Mr. L. G. Collins, for which he paid $100. Those of our readers who saw Mr. Collin's Sheep at the Fair at Cincinnati, will remember the elegant and superior stock of animals of which this is a member* We congratulate Mr. Maxwell and his neighbors upon this very valuable acquisition to the stock of sheep. We understand Mr. M. is intending to bring in one hundred head of fine Saxony ewes this tall.' We wish abundant success to any enterprize of this kind. Curious Fact:—Having occasion a few weeks since to Water for Cattle.—Is it essential that dry cattle on good pasture should have water? Or is the dew sufficient! We are informed that a farmer of this county who fattens quite a number of cattle every year, has not a. drop of stock water on his farm. His cattle are said to bo equal to any fatted in the country. Will some one who has had practical experience inform us ) If true, it would save an immense amount of pumping in some parts of tho country. Tall Timothy.—Wo have referred to several specimens of tall Timothy raised in Eastern Indiana; but tho \ editor of an Indianapolis paper says he has a stalk from <the farm of T. F. Tyson, in Marion county, which meas- \ ures seven feet one and a half inches, f Sheep for Sale.—Mr. Fielding Beelher, of Marlon county, advertises seventy head of Sheep, from three- fourths to full blood Merinos, for sale. The sale to tako place on the 2nd of October next. Cape Grape.—Our neighbor Dr. Howells, has a vino of Cape Grape which has grown this season 2S feet—another branch 24 feet, and another 22 feet, all from tho same stem. Our Neice Bridget.—Right cordially do we welcome the communication of our fair friend Bridget. Wo commend her description of what a farmer's wife should be, to all interested. St. JosEni County Agricultural Society. On Saturday, August 30th, this Society met at the Court House pursuant to adjournment. To Preserve Tomatoes.—The tomatoes roust be well cooked as for the table, with or without salt and spices,— put into the bottles, and the bottles put into cold water and placed over the fire to boil; whilst the water is boiling cork the bottles and seal them with wax of equal parts of rosin and bees-wax. The boiling is to exclude the air. Cooper Corn.—We have a specimen of this Corn in our office, grown on the farm of Wm. Merine, of Randolph county. It is very large ear and grain, and white. The only fear entertained in regard to it, is that it may not mature in our climate, at least for a few years after its introduction, and in thus becoming acclimated may degenerate. were authorized to appoint directors in each Township not now represented on the Board, upon their obtaining members in said unrepresented townships. On motion of Mr. Miller, it was resolved that the Board of Directors be instructed to invite some person to deliver an address on the day of the Fair.
