Hudson, Summit Co. Ohio
June 28. 1849
George Winter Esq
My dear Sir
Yours under date of May
10th came duly to hand, since which I have had no
communication from Logansport. Could I visit you as
easily in reality, as in imagination, I should very often be
beside your easel, but 300 miles is a great distance for
me to go, & I do not know as I shall ever make the jour
-ney, but I shall cherish the hope whether there is a prospect
of realizing it or not. I wish you much joy in the addi-
tion to your family, of course it is all you could desire
it to be. I think you will now have to rub out the dog
you had chalked upon the big picture, & insert the baby
in its place. I shall expect the sketch of the battle
ground from the west, before long, for the weather has
been hot enough to make it evident that summer has
come, whatever it may lack in other respects. The thermom
eter has stood for three days last week at over 90. This
week although warm is considerably cooler. I am also
very glad to hear of the money got for your large pic
tures of the battle ground. I wish it had been more.
I am really astonished that the A.A.U. should have
rejected your picture. I am sure there was a
dozen at least in the collection last year, for which I
would not give mine. But I suppose they are raiding
