Logansport Cass Co,
Indiana May 31st 1848
My Dear Mary,
I suppose by this time that you are expecting
a few lines from your “Dear Man.” I red your letter on Tuesday
evening (a week this day) and was pleased to find that you
had arrived safely and found yourself the “welcomed one.”
You did not say how ‘Nette was – but I naturally inferred
that the fever was but temporary. I hope you have
realized all the enjoyments that you anticipated at the
family meeting.
I will give you a brief history of myself during
my week of solitude. On Sunday following the
night of your departure, I spent the day at Hazards’.
and many pressing invitations were extended to me by them
to call at any time – and often. I dined with them again
last Sunday. I tried Bachelor’s Hall” three days – and
found it “lonely and wretched” – notwithstanding I “tea ed” out
at Mrs. Rice’s, and dined at “Washington Hall” once during
that time.
I concluded that I had better board at
the “Lamcy House” which I am doing at this time. I am
very well pleased with the attention. I am a
very early riser – up an hour before breakfast which takes
place 6 o’clock. So you perceive my improvement since
your departure. I have taken supper at Mrs Tuttle’s once
Mr. Fitch – Cannon – were there – the evening following, I supped
at Mr. Fitch’s during the day Jay Mix & Lawr. Thompson
visited me and invited me down in the evening at the
Coal House, Jay’s room, to drink “a green sass drink.”
But I could not get away from Mr Fitches in season.
