JSPECIAL MRETIImO Qg THK ^ARD OF TRUSTEES,JIEL^URDUE UNIVERSITY, ¥>>h. A special meeting of the Trustees of Purdue University was held at the Claypoo^l Hotel, Indianapolis at 9 A.iA. Friday, Feb- f^o-iJ-^kjUi- ruary 14th. Those present were Messrs. Oliver, Chandler, Hobbs, Hillenbrand, Isenbarger, Noel, Reynolds and Breaks, There were Ii£aish and Fischel of the Advisory Board, Dean {j,^jL.AiuI^Q^»^aklQQ present Messrs. Skinner and Director Woodbury. Mr. W.V. Stuart was absent. La_il.«_jEL-cC Ur -President Stone submitted a statement of the needs of the University. Memorandum on the Deferred and Present Needs of Purdue University. A report submitted of the Legislature Visitation Com¬ mittee in November, 1912, contained the following items relative to the needs of Purdue University? 1. A larger income to provide the "necessary number of in¬ structors; to properly compensate the members of the Faculty; to meet the increased costs of recent years; to meet additional fix¬ ed charges to the increased plant; to provide for new departments of instruction. 2. For money for the purc/iase of land $125,000 5. For buildings and equipment, namely: A greenhouse 50.000 Storage and work building for Horticulture --- 50,000 Horse barn 50,000 Beef cattle barn- 50,000 Veterinary Building 50,000 Equipment for the new DairyBuilding 28,000 Biology Building 75,000 Armory 75.000 Woman's building 100,000 In order to meet these needs, certain specific appropriations were made by the Legislature of 1913 for land and equipment, and the Mill Tax was increased. Subsequently, the action of the State Board of Finance in withholding $121,000 annually from the proceeds of the Mill Tax, practically neutralized the benefits provided by the increase therein, so tnat it has not been possible even after a lapse of six years to carry out more than a portion of the improvements contemplated. The storage and work building for Horticulture, the >ior3e barn, the beef cattle oarn, and the Home Economics buildings 8till remain unprovided for; even thougii ine need for these was acute six years ago.
