All doors to the office were open during the meeting. Treasurer Ford had mailed to each Trustee a detailed analysis and proposal for increasing rates in the Residence Halls and Graduate Houses (copy filed with Minute Material). He pointed out that the conceptual plan for a 4% average increase was reviewed and approved by the Finance Committee (11/22/96). The Treasurer told Trustees that the University's residence hall operation is one of the best in the nation. He pointed to the dedicated and hard work of the management staff to serve their customers~the students. They have been both conservative but willing to change. A good example of change is in the food service area where students can now take their meals in any hall; they can select among three options of 20, 15 or 10 meals per week; and they can spend part of their board dollars at the grill or m the minimart. The Treasurer commended the management of the University Residence Hall System for their willingness to introduce and manage change. Vice President Sautter reviewed the proposal and analysis and called Trustees' attention to items of particular significance. Vice President Sautter recommended the detailed listing of rates by room type which on average represent an increase of $83.74 per semester (4.08%) in Residence Hall rates, effective August 11, 1997; and an increase of $56.50 per semester (4.02%) for Graduate House rates, effective August 11,1997. (Specific rates stated in proposal filed with Minute Material.)
