MINUTES ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE BOARD OF TRUSTEES December 17, 2010 A meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University was held in Room 326, Stewart Center, West Lafayette, Indiana at 1:33 p.m. on December 17, 2010. The following Committee members were present: Chairman JoAnn Brouillette, Michael J. Birck, Thomas E. Spurgeon and Tyler J. Teykl. Also in attendance were Trustees Berghoff, Hardin, Krach, Lehman, Powers and Thompson; President Córdova; Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Sands; Executive Vice President for Business and Finance, Treasurer Diaz; Senior Vice President for Business Services and Assistant Treasurer Almond; Legal Counsel Benton; Dr. Xianfan Xu; Dr. John W. Sutherland; Dr. Laura P. Sands; Mr. Brad Krites, President, Purdue Student Government; Dean Willie Reed and Corporate Secretary Behringer. I. APPOINTMENTS RATIFIED: Upon proper motion duly seconded, the committee voted unanimously to request full Board approval of the following appointments: Dr. Xianfan Xu, James J. and Carol L. Shuttleworth Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. John W. Sutherland, Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering. Dr. Laura P. Sands, Katherine Birck Professor of Nursing. (Letters of recommendation and vitas filed with Minute Material.) II. APPROVAL OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, PURDUE UNIVERSITY NORTH CENTRAL. Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Sands brought forth a proposal for a new Bachelor of Science degree program in Electrical Engineering at the Purdue University North Central campus. Dr. Sands stated that the purpose of this proposal is to establish a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University North Central to meet the needs of local students and the workforce requirements of northern Indiana. The graduates will primarily be involved with the analysis, design and development of electrical/electronics, power and control equipment. Northern Indiana has large
