SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TRUSTEES OF PURDUE UNIVERSITY
June 29, 2005
A Special meeting of the Board of Trustees was held in Room 326, Stewart Center, West Lafayette, Indiana at 2:15 p.m. on June 29, 2005.
The following Trustees were present: McGinley (chairman), Birck, Cusick, Edmondson, Edwardson, Essex, Hardin, Peterson, Powers, and Townsend.
Also in attendance were President Jischke, Provost Mason, Executive Vice President and Treasurer Olsen, Legal Counsel Benton, and Secretary Behringer.
I. AFFIRMATION OF FINDINGS OF THE UNIVERSITY CENSURE
AND DISMISSAL HEARING COMMITTEE.
Chairman McGinley stated that "This special meeting of the Board of Trustees has.been called for the sole purpose of taking final action on a request by Associate Professor Jacqueline Walcott-McQuigg for the Board's review of the Report of the University Censure and Dismissal Hearing Committee finding her guilty of three charges, any of which is sufficient to justify termination of her employment at Purdue for cause.
"Purdue University Executive Memorandum No. B-48 provides that whenever the President or his designee shall bring such charges against a faculty member, the University Censure and Dismissal Committee of the Faculty Senate has the duty and authority to convene a hearing and, after full opportunity for the taking of evidence, confrontation of witnesses and argument by counsel, make a determination as to the guilt or innocence of the faculty member on each of the charges. In this case the hearing took place over a period of 3 days, involved testimony from numerous witnesses, and saw many written exhibits admitted into evidence.
"Executive Memorandum No. B-48 further provides that within 30 days after receiving the record of the hearing and the report of the University Censure and Dismissal Hearing Committee, either the faculty member or the President can request a review of the Committee Report by the Board of Trustees. On May 17, 2005 Dr. Walcott-McQuigg, by counsel, timely filed her request for Board review.
