Banks, Beem, Johnson, Van Natta, Barrett, Harrison, O’Brien, Stuart & DowningMinutes of last meeting July 6th read and approved.The question of Legislative appropriations for Purdue was discussed at considerable length by the Board.On motion of Mr. Beem and amendment by Mr. Barrett it was decided that the Legislature be asked to appropriate the sum of $150,000 for an Agricultural building and Assembly Hall, and equipment for same.On Mr. Harrison’s motion the chair was requested to appoint 3 members of the Board to act as a Legislative Committee.Mr. Stuart appointed as said committee Messrs. Beem, Banks, & O’Brien.President Stone verbally reported the crowded condition of the Civil Engineering & Mechanical Departments and the probable need of more assistance in the Instructional force. On Mr. Banks’ motion Dr. Stone was authorized to secure additional Instructors if found needed.President Stone submitted the following written documents:1st. Regarding requirements for entrance to our Freshman class, recommendation received, read and on Mr. Harrison’s motion approved.To the Board of Trustees of Purdue Univ.GentlemenThe stated requirements for entrance to our Freshman class are at present as follows:Applicants must be sixteen years of age and must be able to pass examinations in English, including grammar, the elements of composition, reading and spelling, description geography, history of the U.S. arithmetic and algebra through quadratic equations.This statement shows that our present entrance requirements are low. Graduates of many of the High schools of the State are able under these conditions to obtain credit for a portion of our Freshman work.For a number of years in order to meet these conditions we have been compelled to monitor two kinds of Freshman classes in mathematics, one beginning with plane geometry, the other, made up of such advanced students as have completed plane geometry, beginning with solid geometry: the distinction being maintained
