Oliver, Chandler, Downing, Hobbs, Hillenbrand, Noel, Purcell, and McCray. Mr. Reynolds was absent.The minutes were read and approved.Mr. Chandler inquired as to the purchase of experimental apparatus for the Department of Engineering.President Stone stated that a high tension transformer had been contracted for and that it was impossible at present to purchase the testing machine.Mr. Chandler desired approval of his claim for traveling expenses to Minnesota. The same was ordered paid.Mr. Chandler requested that as far as possible an outline of the business to be presented to the Board be sent to the various members in advance of the meeting, and on being seconded by Mr. McCray this was approved.By a motion of Mr. McCray, the chair appointed the following committee to prepare by-laws report at a future meeting of the Board, Messrs. Noel, Chandler, Downing, Hobbs, and McCray.A committee on the Davis Farm reported through its Chairman, Mr. Noel, that no definite action had been taken. The deed and a resolution of the Board accepting the gift had been duly recorded in Randolph County. The Committee expressed its intention of making some arrangement with Mr. Swartz for a friendly adjustment of his claim.President Stone made a report on the number and character of government bonds from the Moses Dunn Estate and recommended that they be sold and the proceeds be invested at a higher rate of interest.January 24, 1918To the Board of Trustees:The bequest of the late Moses Fell Dunn brought to the University $83,500. worth per value of government bonds bearing interest at the rate of two, three, and four percent, as follows-- $5,500 at 4%, $13,000. at 2% and $65,000 at 3%. Of the latter $61,500 are payable
