http://e-archives.lib.purdue.edu/botpdf/BOTM19140625.pdfJune 25, 1914Meeting of the Board of TrusteesOffice of Governor Ralston, Indianapolis.Meeting for conference with the Governor and State Finance Board with regard to the ruling of the attorney general on the availability of the appropriations for the Experiment Station and Agricultural Extension Department.Present: Messrs Ade, Harris, Downing, Foster, Hillenbrand, Purcell, Oliver and Stuart.Also present: Members of the Faculty of Purdue University: President Stone, Dean Skinner, Supt Christie, Director Goss, Messrs Coleman and Moore.Members of the Advisory Board of the Experiment Station and Extension Department: Messrs Marsh, Fishel, Prigg, Swain and Johnson; Also Messrs Simms & Wood.Mr. Simms presented a brief and made argument for the retention of the appropriations. Mr. Harris also made argument. Mr. Wood spoke in a similar vein. The Governor stated that he would take the matter under consideration. The Board then adjourned to the office of Mr. Downing and further discussed the situation. Mr. Ade presented the following motion which was adopted.Moved, that a committee of the President of the University, President of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Simms and Mr Stuart, be appointed to look into the legal questions involved, as to the construction of the Mill Tax law placed upon it by the Attorney General, and the effect of the same upon the funds of the University paid under said construction, and report same to a meeting of the Board, to be held as soon as practicable.The Board there adjourned, subject to call.Addison C.
