Stuart, Banks, Johnson, Beem, Harrison, & MartinMinutes of last meeting June 9/96 read and approved.President Smart read to the Board his annual report to the Governor; on Mr. Beem’s motion report approved.The question of salaries was brought up, and after some discussion, Mr. Harrison moved that the members of Faculty now paid quarterly, should hereafter be paid monthly; motion carried.A Committee consisting of Messrs. Beem, Banks, & Martin was appointed to consider the question of abandoning wholly or in part the Ladies Hall & Boarding Hall as a Dormitory and Boarding Hall and using the same for other purposes.On Mr. Beem’s motion the Board allowed the claims of President Smart amounting to $117.69 for traveling expenses incurred on Purdue business.Mr. Barrett was appointed a Committee of one to draft and aid in getting through the Legislature a bill providing for the proper policing of the Purdue University Grounds.The Board agreed with Dr. Smart in the advisability of having all financial reports concurrent, made for the fiscal years ending June 30th and the matter was referred to President Smart and the Secretary of Board for investigation.On Mr. Martin’s motion it was decided to turn over certain musical instruments now in possession of Purdue University to the Purdue Mandolin Club, and to regard the amount heretofore paid therefore, namely $15.00 as a donation to the club.On Mr. Beem’s motion the Board granted Prof. Golden’s request for leave of absence from Dec. 1/96 to Sept. 1/97.The Board accepted the resignation of Mr. Covest and authorized President Smart to transfer Mr. A.P. Jamison from the Wood Shop to the Foundry, and to secure some one to fill the vacancy in Wood Shop.Dr. Smart reported that in accordance with the direction of the Board he had secured the services of Miss Mary Doan as Assistant to Miss McRae in the department of English Literature at a salary of $600 per annum.The Board appointed a committee consisting of Messrs. Stuart, Johnson & Van Natta to investigate the proposed transfer of the State Weather Service, that has been in charge of Purdue to the Weather Service Dept at Washington. Also to look in
