768 CALLED. MEETING, OF THE BOARD,.OF TRUSTEES OF.PURDUE. UNIVERSITY. Notice of Meeting Rollcall Approval of Min¬ utes, April 19, 1953. Consideration of University Budget, 1933-34: 1. Report on Possibilities re Federal Appropria¬ tions. Eliza Fowler Hall Wednesday, May 24, 1935 iE^ursuant to the following notice, mailed by the Secretary to each mem¬ ber of the Board on May 12, 1953, the Board of Trustees met in Eliza Fowler Hall at 9:30 A. M. on Wednesday, May 24, 1935: "I am instructed to notity you that in accordance with action taken at the stated meeting April 19, 1955, there will be a called meeting of the Board of Trustees at 9:50 A. M. on Wednesday, May 24, in Eliza Fowler Hall." There were present: Mrs. Meredith, Messrs Edgerton, Hall, Hillenbrand, Kimbrough, Lilly, Noel, Simpson, President Ross and the President of the University. President Ross presided and the Secretary acted as secretary. Controller Stewart was present during the greater part of the session. is. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. The minutes of the stated meeting held April 19, 1955 were read and approved. II. CONSIDERATION OF UNIVERSITY BUDGET FOR 1955-54. (File A) President Elliott stated that the Executive Committee of the Board, with himself and the Controller, had on Tuesday considered the budget for the instructional departments, the Engineering iExperiment Station and the Engineering Extension Department. Before presenting it, with the recommenda¬ tions of the committee, he v/ished to call attention to certain financial facts which must be taken into consideration. 1. Federal Appropriations. The Agricultural Experiment Station and the Agricultural Extension Department budgets csmnot be prepared on account of the possibility of considerable reductions in the federal appropriations. Director of the Budget Douglas has recommended that all federal aid to the states be withdrawn, in which case the Morrill-Nelson fund of the University will be lost, and has also recommended economic measures which will eliminate
