The following resolutions regarding the death of Prof. R.W. Swan Librarian were adopted. Whereas since the last meeting of the Board of Trustees of Purdue University, death has removed from the Faculty of said University Prof. R.W. Swan who for six years was a member thereof: andWhereas during his connection with the University he has always been a prudent officer, a faithful instructor and a wise counseller [counselor], commanding and enjoying the respect and esteem of all who were in any manner associated with him, thereforeBe it resolved That the Trustees of the University have learned with sincere regret of the death of Prof. Swan, that they extend to the family of the deceased their sympathy in their affliction and that this action of the Board be made a part of the minutes and spread on the record of the University. Also the following resolution on the decease of M.L. Peirce Treasurer were adopted. Whereas on the 29th day of December 1889 there occurred the death of Martin L. Peirce of Lafayette Indiana, who had for a period of nineteen years been a member or officer of this Board, and Whereas, during the development of the University from its inception through all its troubles and embarrassments down to the time of his death he had been an active outspoken and earnest friend of the University and Whereas, during the many years that he has filled the position of Treasurer of this board his relations with the members of this board have been by the most pleasant character, thereforeBe it resolved, That in the death of Martin L. Peirce Purdue University has lost a tried and influential friend, a faithful officer and enthusiastic supporter. Resolved, That this action of the Board be spread on the records of the Board and a copy of the same duly signed by the President and Secretary be sent to the family of the deceased.
