Stein in LaFayette. Present: President Sutherland and Messers [Messieurs] Haynes, Ratliff, Williams, Dablebawer [Dobelbower] and Wells. Also present Caleb S. Denny, Esquire, of Indianapolis. After an informal Consultation in regard to the interests of the University the Board adjourned to meet tomorrow morning at ten Oclock [O’clock] at the Office of Secretary Stein. Thursday, December 16, 1880. 10’AMPursuant to adjournment the Board met at the Office of Secretary Stein. Present as of Yesterday. The minutes of the last June session were read and approved. Mr. C.S. Denny addressed the Board explaining that he was here with a Commission from the Govenor [Governor] of Indiana appointing him a Trustee of Purdue University to fill a vacancy occasioned by the supposed resignation of Reuben Wells. He submitted his Commission to the Board. Mr. Wells stated that their [there] was a misunderstanding in the Case, and explained that this vacation of Office originated in the idea that he had removed from the State, whereas in fact he still remained a resident citizen of Indiana, simply sojourning temporarily in Louisville Kentucky, and not intending to become a resident citizen of Kentucky unless circumstances which might hereafter occur might lead him to do so.
