On the above named day the Board of Trustees of Purdue University in pursuance of a call of the President met at the University. Present, Ratliff, Bybee, Banks, Hargrove, and Stuart. 1. Judge Haggard presented a petition to the Board in relation to Stockton’s addition to the village of Chauncey. The matter was referred to Dr. Smart, Prof. Latta and M.L. Peirce to investigate and report to the Board at its next meeting. 2. The action of the members of the Board at their informal meeting on June 8th, 1887 in reelecting the members of the Faculty was on motion of Mr. Banks unanimously ratified and their action endorsed. 3. The resignations of the following members of the Faculty were received and accepted, viz: Profs. Anderson, Osborn, Warder, Barnes, and Miss. Fletcher. 4. John W. Nef Ph.D. of Massachusetts was then elected Prof. of Chemistry at a salary of $1200 per annum from September 1st, 1887. 5. Joseph C. Arthur D. Sc. of New York was elected Prof. of Botany and Zoology at a salary of $1600 per annum from Sept. 1, 1887. Dr. Arthur’s election is with the understanding that as soon as the money for the Agricultural Experimental Station becomes available he shall be transferred to that department and have Economic Botany exclusively and at the same salary—viz: $1600—per annum. 6. A.R. Phillips C.E. of N.Y. was elected Prof. of Civil Engineering at $800 for the year 1887-8 commencing Sept. 1. 7. Theries D. Hinebanch B.S. D.V.S. of Michigan was elected as special lecturer in Veterinary Science at a compensation of $200 per annum. 8. William Doehue Ph.D. was elected assistant in chemical Laboratory at $200 per annum.
