John Purdue at the Lahr House in the city of La Fayette; present J.R. Coffroth, President, and Messrs. Sutherland, Wells, Haynes, Manson and Ratliff, trustees; also present the Hon. John Purdue. On motion the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The President laid before the Board the following communication from President A.C. Shortridge:“Office of Purdue University, La Fayette, Ind. Nov. 5, 1875. To the members of the Board of Trustees; Gentlemen, You are hereby requested to accept my resignation as President of Purdue University, to take effect December 31st, 1875. Cordially wishing the institution a prosperous future, and that it may ultimately be made to serve the purposes for which it was endowed, I remain respectfully yours, A.C. Shortridge.” On motion of Mr. Ratliff the resignation of President Shortridge was accepted and his communication was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs. Manson, Ratliff and Wells, who were instructed to report to the Board at its present meeting a suitable response thereto. On motion the bill of J.H. Smart for expenses in making display of University in the Educational Department in the Indiana State Exposition 1875, $20.00 was allowed. Prest. [President] Coffroth, heretofore charged with the duty of procuring, if possible, the detail of an officer of the signal service U.S.A. reports verbally and on motion he has time to the next meeting to make for the report. On motion of Mr. Sutherland Genl. Jasper Packard of La Porte and Genl. H.B. Carrington
