In pursuance of a call of the Governor the Board of Trustees met at the Lahr House, in the City of Lafayette, on Monday the 8th day of August 1870.Present Hon. Conrad Baker Governor, Rev. Thomas Bowman, D.D., John Purdue, Henry Taylor and Martin L. Peirce. A quorum being present the Board was called to order by the Governor, and the minutes of the last two meetings read and adopted. The members of the Board then proceeded to the grounds heretofore selected for the location of the University buildings, with reference to location of buildings and improvements thereon, and on again meeting at the Lahr House, after mature consultation, it was resolved, that the first University building be located and erected on the ground East of the depression marked Zero on the Topographical Survey, and within two to four hundred feet of the North line of the tract of land. The Committe [Committee] heretofore appointed to procure perfected plans and specifications not being able to agree unanimously, on the same, refer’d [referred] the whole matter back to the board, and ask to be discharged, which report was accepted and the committe [committee] discharged. On motion resolved that Thomas Bowman D.D. and John Purdue be appointed a Committe [Committee] to procure and adopt plans and specifications for the first University building, and that nothing shall be done in the erection of the building until the plans and specifications are perfected and adopted, and that in case of disagreement they are authorized to call on either [of] the other trustees as umpire. On motion resolved that the salary of the present Treasurer be fixed at six hundred dollars per year, and the salary of the Secretary be four hundred dollars per year. Ordered that an order issue to Dr. Thomas Bowman for two days attendance as a member of this Board, six dollars and three dollars mileage. Ordered that the Board now adjourn, to meet again on the Call of his honor Gov. Baker. Attest. M.L. Peirce, Secy. [Secretary][signed] Conrad Baker [Governor]
