Pursuant to adjournment the Board of Trustees met at the above office at 10 o’clock A.M.—all the members thereof, including Luke A. Burke (except Mr. Purdue) having previously visited the University grounds, as per the motion of Mr. Nelson of yesterday.Present: Messrs. [Messieurs] Purdue, Peirce, Coffroth, Stein, Bowman, Nelson and Sutherland—Mr. Purdue officiating as president pro tem. Mr. Luke A. Burke, a Trustee elected by the Legislature at its last session, now appears and files his oath of office as such Trustee—the same reading as follows:“The State of Indiana, Tippecanoe County, ss. [sub-state?] Luke A. Burke on his oath said that he will faithfully and to the best of his ability discharge his duties as Trustee of Purdue University.(signd. [signed]) L.A. Burke.Subscribed and sworn to on this 4th day of April 1871 before me, as Notary Public in and for said county, as witness my hand and Notorial seal. Nat. L. Wood, Notary Public.” [drawing of notorial seal]Thereupon Mr. Burke assumed his seat on the Board as such Trustee. Dr. Bowman then moved to take from the table his motion and the amendment of Mr. Nelson, accepted by him, which had been laid on the table yesterday. So ordered. The question being on the adoption of said motion as amended by Mr. Nelson, it was affirmatively carried without dissent. Dr. Bowman moved that all Committees heretofore appointed on the subject of plans and buildings, or either, be discharged. So ordered unanimously. Mr. Nelson moved that a Building Committee of four, consisting of Messrs. [Messieurs] Purdue, Bowman, Peirce and Coffroth, be now appointed. So ordered unanimously. Hereupon Mr. Coffroth submitted the following resolution:“Resolved, that the Building Committee, just appointed, be, and hereby are, empowered to erect with the least possible delay a University building at a
