John Purdue, Lewis Burke, Smith Vauter, Henry Taylor and his Excellency Conrad Baker, Ex officio Prest. [President] of the Board. Absent Hon. Isaac Jenkinson, now absent in Europe.The object of the call being stated by the Governor, and the matter having been fully discussed, it was suggested that a delegation from Stockwell in Tippecanoe County desired to make propositions to the Board offering the grounds and buildings of the College at that point as well as other matters in connection therewith. Whereupon Dr. Baker and Mr. Eli Cooper were introduced, and the proposition made as above stated, was presented verbally and among others taken under consideration.On motion of Mr. Vauter it was proposed to take a vote upon the different localities named which being agreed to Mr. Vauter Moved, that the “Battle Ground” be selected as the site for the college—which was lost. Mr. Taylor then moved that “Shawnee Mound” be selected as the site which was also lost.Here John Purdue then presented an argument in favor of La Fayette as the location, which was favorably received by the Board and sustained by the Governor and other members of the Board, and after due deliberation it was by Mr. Vauter Moved--, That the members of the Board residents of Tippecanoe County, be and they are hereby authorized to select a site within two and a half miles of the Court House in
