The Board of Trustees met this day at the above place, pursuant to a call of the Governor; Present Messrs [Messieurs] Sutherland, Shaw, Claypool, Peirce and Stein. On motion Mr. Sutherland was appointed President pro tempore; and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. On motion the vote had at the last meeting relative to the furnishing of 25 suits of rooms of the Dormitory was reconsidered and so much of the order then made as furnished a mattress to each student was revoked; the balance of said order to stand. President Shortridge, and Professors Hougham and Morgan, being present, after conference with them concerning the scheme of education to be adopted, and the terms of admission and expenses of attendance, it was unanimously ordered by the Board as follows, viz:Education in the University shall be distributed into the following schools and departments:I. The School of Natural Sciencea. Physics and Industrial Mechanicsb. Chemistryc. Natural History II. The School of Engineeringa. Civil Engineeringb. Mining Engineeringc. ArchitectureIII. The School of Agriculture a. Agriculture—theoretical and practical b. Horticulturec. Veterinary Science IV. The School of Military ScienceMathematics, the German and French languages and also Freehand and Mechanical Drawing are to be prominent studies in the Schools of Natural Science, Engineering and Military Science. Requirements for admission.Candidates for admission must be of good moral character
