Oliver presented his re-appointment to the Board. Said aprointTrent r^jr,s from July 1, I919 to July 1, I925, President Stone presented the following written communi¬ cations: No, 1: Eeccrrjr.endin:-: a Summier School for the training of Vo¬ cational Teachers , Received, read and approved. December 9, I919, To the Board of Trustees: For a number of years the University has undertaken to conduct a summer school for the purpose of furnishing training for teachers of vocational subjects in the public schools of the State, From the nature of Purdue University, it is better fitted than any other institution in the State to do this work and indeed is the only institution where it can be properly done. Under these circum¬ stances, it seems almost a duty on the part of the University to co¬ operate with the present day movement for vocational education by undertaking this work. I think our Faculty feels that it is not desirable to conduct a summer school and during the war v;e viere glad to omit the school v/hich had been conducted for some years previous thereto. The question now comes up again and the Department of Edu¬ cation recommends that such a school be conducted this summer for the sole purpose of vocational teacher training. There are provisions under Federal law which appropriate considerable money to the State of Indiana for this purpose under Which funds will be available from the State to pay at least to the extent of one-half tbe costs of such a sumjner school. I recuii...onu. that the administration of such a school for a period of nine weeks during the summer be approved. ' Respectfully submitted, W.E. Stonb (Signed) No. 2: Regarding traveling expenses of ir.en-bers of the staff; received and read.
