xursuant   to   the   call  of President Oliver,   the Board of Trustees of Purdue  University met,   in  special   session,   at Eliza Fowler hall  at   two  o'clock  P.  M.     The  following   t, -is
were present:

The  President  of  the Board presided  and .._,.>. .--^   '¦••  V/illia is,
Assistant  Secretary,   acted  as Secretary.     President Oliver  stated
that   the   sudden death of President  Stone  made   it  necessary  for
steps   to be   taken  to   carry on   the work  of   tiie   institution.     He
spoke  briefly  of President  Stone's high v^ualifications and of   the
great  loss  to   the  University by his untimely  death.     He  called
attention  to   the great work accomplished  by  President  Stone and
the grov/th of the University under his guidance;   and  the great
responsibility nov/   oefore   the Board.
President  Oliver   said  that on  receipt  of  the  nev/s of Dr, Stone's  death  irmnediate  action v/as  necessary.     Therefore,   a meeting  of   the Executive   Committee was   called and  the   Committee met   on  July 27th.   and  at   the meeting  some  necessary arrange¬ ments were made,   although v/ithout  authority of  the Board, Lr,   Oliver   said   that he wished   the Board  to  know  exactly v/hat nad  been done   in  the  cnergency and  that he  desired  its approval
