The Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University convened ; in stated meeting in the Trustees' Room of the Executive Building of the ; University at 9:30 a. m. , Wednesday, January 17, 1951, pursuant to Minute i XIII, Board meeting held December 7, 1950, and further pursuant to the ]i following notice sent to each member of the Board by the Secretary on f January 2, 1951: '; In accordance with thej)rovisions of the By-Laws, there will be a ^eiata^iaeetin^af tRSTBC^rd of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue ¦ University on Wednesday, January 17, 1951, convening at 9:30 a.m. in the Trustees' Room of the Executive Building of the University, • in order to: 1. Receive, open, consider and act upon bids for Materials and Testing Laboratories Building; and 2. Consider and act upon any other matter or business that may conae before said meeting. . II. ROLL CALL. Vice President Thompson called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. All members of the Board except two were present as follows: Mrs. Van Ness, Messrs. Branigin, Kettler, Lynn, O'Brien, Thompson and Wilson. The ab¬ sences of Mr. Hanley and Mr. Sherwood because of urgent business elsewhere were excused by consent. Also present were President Hovde. Secretary Hockema, and Assistant Secretary Skinner. Treasurer Stewart and Comptroller^entered the meeting at 10:00 a. na. (Minute XIU). III. APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL AND METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING. President Hovde recommended the appointnaent of Dr. Edward Walter Comings as Head of the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering and Professor of Chemical Engineering, at a salary of $10, 600. 00 for twelve naonths, to be effective September 1, 1951. Dr. Conaings was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, in 1908, received his BS degree frona the University of Illinois in 1930 and ScD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1934. He has held positions with the Texas Company, North Carolina State College, and the University of Illinois. He joined the Uni¬ versity of Illinois staff in 1936 and has been Professor of Chemical Engineering since 1947. Dr. Comings will replace Professor R. Norris Shreve who had agreed to relinquish the headship at the age of sixty-five.
