The Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University convened in special meeting in Room 218, Purdue Memorial Union, at 7:25 p.nn.. on Tuesday, April 19, I960, pursuant to action of the Board on March 23, I960, and further pursuant to the following notice sent to each Trustee by the Secre¬ tary on March 30, I960: In accordance with action of the Board of Trustees at a meeting held March 23, I960, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University on Tuesday, April 19, I960, convening in Roona 218 of Purdue Memorial Union immediately following a dinner to be served at 6:00 p.m. CST in Room 236 of Purdue Memorial Union, in order to: 1. Consider and discuss the Purdue Extension Center program - current and future; 2. Consider and act upon any other matter or business which may come before said meeting. n. ROLL CALL. President Hanley called the meeting to order at 7:25 p.m. following dinner in Purdue Memorial Union. All members of the Board except three were present as follows: Mrs. Van Ness, Messrs. Hanley, Kettler, Schenck, Thompson and Wilson. The absences of Messrs. Branigin, Creighton and DeLaurier were excused by consent of the Board. Also present were President Hovde, Treasurer Stewart, Assistant Treasurer Freehafer, Executive Dean Mallett, Assistant Business Manager Linn, Assistant to the Treasurer Gabbard, Legal Assistant Lowe, Assistant Pereida, and Secretary Skinner. Also present were Dean C. H. Lawshe, Assistant Dean Scott, and Mr. Walter Scholer, Jr., architect. m. PRESENTATION RE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION ADMINISTRATION, PARTICULARLY WITH REFERENCE TO THE OFF-CAMPUS CENTERS. President Hovde reported that, at the time budget conferences were held, Dean Lawshe of University Extension Administration had presented an analysis of his problems. In order that the Trustees might have the same understanding of these problems as University officers had gained at that time, he had suggested that Dean Lawshe make the same presentation to the Trustees. President Hovde commented that Dean Lawshe had provided vigorous, intelligent and imaginative leadership and management in his area. He asked Dean Lawshe to present his story.
