The Board of Trustees of The Trustees of Purdue University convened at I 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 1945, in the Trustees' Room of the Executive I Building of the University, pursuant to the follov/ing notice sent to each i member by the Secretary on August 1, 1945:
; President Hillenbrand has instructed me to notifj'- you that there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of The Trustees of :; Purdue University on Tuesday, August 21, 1945, convening at 10:00 a.m. I in the Trustees' Room of the Executive Building of the University in ! order to:
I l) Receive, open, consider and act upon bids for the construction ¦ of a Naval Opauance I'aboratoiy, and
ji 2) Consider and act upon any other matter or business that may
! come before said meeting,

I The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m.. by President Hillenbrand.
i; The following Trustees v/ere present: Miss McHale, Messrs. Hanley, Hillenbrand, ' Lynn, Sherwood, Stuart, Thompson and V/ilson. By consent the Board excused the ! absence of Mr. Cole because of urgent business elsev/here.
j Also present were Acting President Potter, Controller Stev/art and Secretary ' Hockema.
i' III. AUTHORITY TO CONFER HONORARY DEGREES.
President Potter reported that the Committee on Honorary Degrees had,made recommendations on April 24, 1945, but that, due to Office of Defense Transpor¬ tation restrictions on travel, these recommendations had not been transmitted to the Board. He then presented the Committee's recommendations for the granting of honorary degrees to the following candidates:
Doctor of Science
Doctor of Engineering
Doctor of Engineering
Ira Lawrence Baldwin Dean of Graduate School University of Wisconsin
Clifford Cook Furnas Director of Research Curtiss-V/right Airplane Division
