Purdue University Veterinary Medical UPDATE Summer/Fall 1995 Vol. XX, No. 2 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Open New Doors A ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, September 23, will celebrate the opening of the new addition to Lynn Hall. The expansion doubles the size of the facility, and concludes a series of improvements to the veterinary medical complex dating back to the completion of the new Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in 1991. A new laboratory animal housing facility was constructed in 1993. The old farriery was remodeled and expanded in 1994 to house the new Equine Sports Medicine Center. The SVM library is moving into the 10,000 square foot Biomedical Information Resource Center, which also will house the School's computer center. Just across the hall from the library is the new 200-seat auditorium. As the new addition is completed workers will begin renovating areas of Lynn Hall vacated by the move to the new facility. The renovations will include improved and expanded space for diagnostic imaging and small group teaching laboratories. All alumni and friends are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10a.m., Saturday, September23,1995. Dean Lewis To Relinquish Post The expanded facilities lor the School of Veterinary Medicine include a new canopied entrance to the Small Animal Hospital, new and expanded space for the pharmacy, clinical pathology laboratory, medical records, new exam rooms, treatment rooms and surgery suites. The new Biomedical Information Resource Center and lecture hall are housed in the three story section to the right. r% ean Hugh B. Lewis, who presided M-J over the School of Veterinary Medicine's campaign to expand and improve the veterinary medical complex, will step down June 30,1996. When Dean Lewis shared his decision with members of the Alumni Liaison Committee, President-elect of the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association, Dr. Jerry Turner, said "you have done an excellent job of carrying out your mission. The School has benefited from your leadership." A search committee has been appointed and is preparing to receive applications. After stepping down, Dean Lewis plans to take a one year sabbatical to do research and then return to Purdue to help build the toxicologic pathology program in the department of Veterinary Pathobio- logy. His comments regarding his decision are contained in the Dean's Corner on page 2.
