HO 145 Landscape Architecture HORTICULTURE DEPARTMENT COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE PURDUE UNIVERSITY WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA 47907 Landscape Architectural Services in Indiana Ada Niedenthal, Extension Landscape Architect Introduction This document has been written to help individual citizens and agencies throughout the state locate professional landscape architects. The listing was obtained by mailing a questionnaire to landscape architects in the state asking that they indicate the type of projects they would like to work on and the region within the state they would be willing to serve. Those results were tabulated by type of project and state planning regions. As a consequence, it is important that the user of this document understand two things. First, this document only tells you which landscape architects want to perform certain types of tasks. Landscape architects frequently specialize in the type of projects they do. For example, they might prefer to design parks or residential gardens. Thus, the lists of practitioners are categorized by type of project. The document does not tell you, however, which individual would be the best landscape architect to undertake your specific project. Nor should the reader assume that because someone is listed herein that Purdue University or the Cooperative Extension Service is in any way qualifying or endorsing the individual or firm to perform design services. The document simply tells you those who are interested in doing the type of service you want provided. As in the case of hiring anyone to perform a service, you will want to talk with several individuals before making a final selection. During those discussions, you can request references from past clients for whom similar work has been done and review examples of previous projects. Second, this listing includes both individuals who work full-time in private consulting firms providing the types of design services listed herein and individuals who are interested in undertaking design projects on a part-time basis. You can generally distinguish between the two by noting that those working in private consulting firms have the name of the firm following their name in the listing. Those who are working part-time show only their own name and address. The distinction between the two is mentioned primarily because you might have a project with which you would feel comfortable only when done by someone who can devote their full-time effort toward its completion. This would be particularly true if the project you want to have completed is one that needs to be finished in a very short time. If the question of full-time or part-time is important, you should establish immediately when you contact the landscape architect whether or not your project can be completed within the time frame available to you.
