Mimeo. HO-89-I December 21, 1956. Purdue University Agricultural Extension Service OUTLINE OF THE COUNTY LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT H, W. Gilbert and N. W. Marty The Problem: There is great need in every Indiana county for a program to further the planning viewpoint and establish the fundamentals of land use planning in the better development of the farmstead, small home grounds, school grounds, rural church grounds, community parks, and other civic enterprises. The project will be offered only in those counties in which the county asent and home demonstration agent will direct it as a ioint project. Ideallv. the project would be initiated by the County Extension Program Planning Committee. Ten or more families who want to make a landscape plan should be pre-enrolled before requesting this project. These families should have the desire to follow the project through to its completion. The Nature of the Proiect: The project is planned to encourage families and communities or groups to find the solution to their planning problems. It is planned to be completed in 2 years, but additional meetings may be necessary in subsequent years as developments bring new demands. The information and problems which will be discussed will have application to the landscape development of farmsteads, suburban homes and urban homes. The project, therefore, should be of value to all those who have an interest in and a desire to improve their home and community surroundings. The public should be informed that the subject matter meetings will be general interest meetings, and will be open to all. Teaching will emphasize the underlying principles of landscape development, recommended designing procedures, knowledge of and appreciation for ornamental plant materials, and the encouragement of the study of literature in this field. Every one should be encouraged to attend these subject matter meetings, even though they may not desire to enroll for the complete project. These meetings also will be suitable for leaders, such as home economics club leaders, to attend, for acquiring material to be presented to local groups. The general interest meetings will include the use of colored slides, illustrative materials, models, and printed and mimeographed materials. Cooperative Extension Work In Agriculture and Home Economics State of Indiana, Purdue University and the United States Department of Agriculture Cooperating H. J. Reed, Director, Lafayette, Indiana Issued in furtherance of the Acts of May 8 and June 30, 1914.
