Mimeo DH-105 Revised February, 1968 AVAILABLE AI SIRES, FEBRUARY 1968 S. M. Gregory and N. J. Moeller This report includes sires in bull studs listed at the end of this mimeo. These sires were reported as active in AI on January 1, 1967 or later, and having sufficient daughters with herdmates to meet minimum qualifications for summary. Sires were considered as active if alive, or if semen is available in regular service if the sire is dead. Records of production of daughters of these sires are shown in comparison with their non-paternal herdmates calving in the same season of the year. Production data shown for daughters with herdmates include records from states other than Indiana. Sires listed are by breeds and in numerical order of registration number. The number of states in which daughters are now located (No. St.) is shown in the second column followed by the stud number in which the bull is located. (See list of studs) Percent of daughters sold for beef or died in their first lactation (Inc. %) is shown next. This column is blank if the first lactations were not available on 50% or more of the daughters. The number of daughters (No. Daus.) with herdmates included in the sire summary is listed next. Average 305-2X-M.E. production of these AI daughters tested is shown. Next appears the production of herdmates with their 305-2X-M.E. production. Repeatability of sire summary indicates the repeatability of this summary to future sire summaries. It should be used as a "confidence factor" or measure of the relationship between this proof and the true breeding merit of the sire. Predicted difference indicates the change in production of a sire's daughters as influenced by (1) herdmates production, (2) differences in feeding and management levels, and (3) variance from breed average. Thus, a sire with a large number of daughters in many herds and states with a large increase in both milk and butterfat production would be expected to provide satisfactory genetic improvement for a breeder. Additional information on these and other AI sires is available in the DHIA Sire Summary List available at your County Extension Office. This mimeo supplements other issues of DH-105.
