Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service Lafayette, Indiana Hoosier Gold Medal 4aml> £ldb AS-57 Rev. 1972 Cooperative Extensitm-'SeYvice, Purdue University, in cooperation with the Indiana Livestock Breeders' Association PURPOSE The Hoosier Gold Medal Lamb Club program is designed to promote efficient production of fast-gaining, highly-desirable sheep by identifying genetically superior individuals through record of performance and live animal evaluation procedures. The Indiana Livestock Breeders' Association will award certificates and/or medals to any person in Indiana who (a) qualifies one or more lambs, or (b) owns the sire of one or more get-of-sire groups that have weight and show ring records (as herein outlined) in the Hoosier Gold Medal Lamb Club. PARTICIPANTS Any member of the Indiana Livestock Breeders' Association is eligible to participate in the Hoosier Gold Medal Lamb Club. Persons who purchase lambs already qualified for Gold Medal Exhibition need not join the Indiana Livestock Breeders Association, since the lamb was qualified by a member of the Association and the exhibitor's card remains with the lamb. BREEDING OF LAMBS Lambs must have been sired by registered rams and be from registered ewes of the same breed. Participation is limited to breeds approved by the Indiana Livestock Breeders' Association. ELIGIBILITY OF LAMBS Only lambs born in Indiana and owned and exhibited by residents of Indiana are eligible. Only lambs born between September 1 of the preceding year and March 31 of the current year are eligible for participation. NOMINATION AND WEIGHT OF LAMBS All lambs shall be weighed between 80 and 100 days of age. Weight will be adjusted to 90-day basis. Complete identification of ram, ewe and lamb (including 90-day weight) will be reported on form ISPTP-1 "Indiana Sheep Performance Testing Program-Flock Performance Data. " Completion of ISPTP-1 by owner shall satisfy the nomination requirement for the Gold Medal Lamb Club. Data reported on the form will be verified by the owner or breeder by his signature. Completed ISPTP-1 forms must be in the office of the State Gold Medal Lamb Club leader by July 1. QUALIFICATION OF LAMBS Weight of lambs will be adjusted to 90-days. The 90-day adjusted weight will include adjustments for age of lamb, age of ewe, sex of lamb, and type of birth-type of rearing of lamb. Flock average adjusted 90-day weight will be calculated. Lamb adjusted 90-day weight will be expressed as a ratio of the flock average adjusted 90-day weight, and is determined as follows: Individual's Adj. 90-day weight 1qq Flock Ave. Adj. 90-day weight Any lamb with a weight ratio of 101 or more will be eligible. Exhibitors cards will be prepared and distributed for all eligible lambs. Exhibitors card shall stay with lamb.
