Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service Animal Sciences Department Mimeo AS-57 Rev. Jan. 1963 HOOSIER GOLD MEDAL LAMB CLUB Registered Lambs The Indiana Livestock Breeders Association will award members who: 1. Make individual registered lambs weigh 70 pounds or more within 4 months after the date of birth and have show ring records as herein outlined. 2. Own the sire of one or more get-of-sire groups that have weight and show ring records as herein outlined. 3. Make commercial flock weight records as herein outlined. Eligibility 1. Any purebred lamb eligible to registry in a recognized breed association may be nominated for Gold Medal competition. 2. All lambs must be docked. 3. Lambs must be born between September 1 and May 1. Nomination of Lambs 1. Lambs shall be nominated individually on regular nomination cards giving the ear label or individual identification, date of birth and registration name and number of sire and dam. (Nomination cards are available from your County Extension Agent) 2. Members shall nominate lambs within 30 days after birth--before May 1. 3. Nominations shall be in the hands of the secretary on or before May 15. Official Weights 1. Each lamb shall weigh 70 pounds or more 4 months after the date of birth, to be eligible to show. 2. Fifteen days of grace will be allowed after the official weigh date with a deduction of 0.6 pound per day for each day over 4 months of age. 3. Weights shall be witnessed by a committee of two disinterested parties or a county agent or a vocational agriculture teacher who will certify to the weights on cards provided for that purpose. 4. As soon as official weights are taken they shall be forwarded by the county agent to the State Project leader. Showing Lambs All members whose registered lambs have made the outlined gain requirements are entitled to exhibit not more than two single lambs or two pens of lambs in each Gold Medal Lamb Club class at recognized county, district or state shows. Classes shall be as follows for medal awards: 1. Single ewe lambs. 2. Single ram lambs, 3. Pens of three registered ewe lambs. 4. Pens of three registered ram lambs. (Pens of lambs may or may not be all sired by one ram.) The show or fair management may provide as many classes as it desires. Basis of Medal Awards 1. There shall be at least two exhibitors in each gold medal class. 2. Medals shall be awarded as follows:
