-1- Purdue University Agricultural Extension Service Mimeo 4H-102 Rev. Mar. 1959 4-H CANNING TOMATO CLUB Eighth Revision Prepared by the 4-H and Horticulture Departments of Purdue University PURPOSE—To bring interest in the growing of high quality tomatoes for canning purposes through 4-H Tomato Club projects. Also, to provide a statewide uniform system of awards that will encourage and assist 4-H Tomato Club members. The Indiana Canners’ Association will award prizes according to the outline listed below, COOPERATORS—Canners and all others associated with the tomato industry, Purdue University 4-H Club and horticultural departments, state and county agricultural extension agencies and the vocational agricultural division of the State Board of Education. RESPONSIBILITIES—Tomato 4-H work shall be carried on through the regular 4-H Club Department of Purdue University, the state and county Agricultural Extension Agencies, the Extension Department of Purdue University, and the Indiana Tomato Club Committee. FINANCES—Funds shall be obtained annually by the Indiana Tomato Club Committee, by direct soliciation, from associations, companies, and individuals, associated with the canning industry. The individual canneries in each of the tomato producing counties and the county extension offices in cooperation with all the canneries in each county are encouraged to set up local and county awards for local and county winners. AWARDS—State awards amounting to $450.00 will be made available to contestants selling tomatoes on the Federal grade basis and to contestants selling tomatoes on the flat rate basis.
