Extension Bulletin No. 196 May, 1933 INDIANA BIG TEAM HITCHES Why Use Big Team Hitches? 1. They increase the efficiency of man power by enabling one man to plow .more acres per day. 2. They increase the efficiency of horses by equalizing the load, eliminating side draft and preventing overloading. 3. They make possible better seed bed preparation, through the use of bigger implements and the combining of implements. 4. They are an excellent place to work green, unbroken, colts. Horses have a natural instinct for following a leader, and for this reason, work better in a tandem hitch. 5. They are simple, homemade, and inexpensive. 6. The use of horses requires little, if any, cash outlay but furnishes a market for home grown grain, hay and pasture. In this way, the cost of farm power is always adjusted to the farmer's purchasing power as represented by the farm value of his crops. 7. By using brood mares and their colts for farm power, the farmer avoids depreciation losses and also cash outlays for replacements. Cooperative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics State of Indiana, Purdue University and the United States Department of Agriculture Cooperating J. H. Skinner, Director, Lafayette, Indiana Issued in Furtherance of the Acts of May 8 and June 30, 1914
